A prominent pale purple to lavender fluorite crystal rises dramatically from a dark, richly textured sphalerite matrix, creating the classic contrast for which Elmwood specimens are prized by mineral collectors.

The Elmwood Mine became internationally known for producing exceptional specimens of fluorite, sphalerite, calcite, and barite alongside its commercial zinc production. The mine is now closed, with operations ending in 2023, which means newly mined Elmwood material is no longer being produced. Available specimens now represent material recovered during the mine’s operating history and are increasingly valued as pieces from a celebrated American mineral locality.
